Masterplanning + Indigenous Cultural Development
BKI Indigenous Community Centre
Queens Park, WA
Located on part of the site of the former Sister Kate’s Childrens Home, this project was a concept masterplan for a local community of Aboriginals who wanted to create a cultural and educational centre for their people.
After lengthy consultation with the custodians of the site a concept master plan was designed, incorporating the existing buildings and creating sites for educational, medical, cultural and community facilities.
With the completion of the concept masterplan, Kirsten created a marketing brochure incorporating the scheme to assist BKI in raising funds for the future development.

Queens Park Regional Open Space & Recreational Area Development Proposal
Working closely with the Maamba organisation, this project was a written and design response to a proposal by the local council to develop an area of open space into a recreational area. To this end rehabilitation of the area was researched and a more community and environmentally considered response was proposed on behalf of the Maamba organisation. Detailed analysis of the area was done and a proposal for the environmentally sustainable development of tourism; training and community facilities was made. Taking into its location close to the international airport, the proposal included creating a wildlife sanctuary and working with the local Aborginal community and local schools.
